of the Spirited Garden, have inspired many state-level
celebrities from all over the world. Its refined garden
art, which cannot be defined as a mere bonsai collection,
will uplift your spirit as well. |

The o’sulloc Museum, located on Jeju-do
Island near Seogwangdawon, teaches visitors about Korea’s
traditional tea culture. The “o” in “o’sulloc”, means
to appreciate and enjoy, and it also stands for the
origin of sulloc, only sulloc, and of sulloc tea. The
museum, which first opened in September 2001, is widely
known in Korea. The entire building takes the shape
of a green tea cup. It seeks to harmonize the cultures
of the West and East, and past traditions with the modern

Jeju Folklore & Natural
History Museum currently has on exhibition folklore
remains and natural historical materials of Jeju-do
that were excavated in Jeju-do and displayed in 1984.
The museum is divided into 4 exhibition halls: the Natural
History Hall, the Folklore Exhibition HallⅠ, the Folklore
Exhibition HallⅡ, and the Outdoor Exhibition. The Natural
History Exhibition Hall displays mainly natural historical
items such as marine life, soil and rocks, and fauna
and flora of Jeju in a three-dimensional way. It gives
visitors a better understanding of Jeju’s unique nature
and culture. |
|
Situated to the north of Jeju City, Yongduam
was created by strong winds and waves over thousands
of years. However, there are plenty of other stories
of how it came to be. One legend has it that a dragon
stealing precious jade from Mt. Halla was shot down
by an arrow from the mountain deity. When he fell down
on Yongduam, his body immediately sank into the ocean
and his head rapidly froze looking at the sky. |

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak
rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over
100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo
Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan
Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter
and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the
crater, it looks like a gigantic crown.
|
|
The pristine beauty of Jeju can be seen
in Seopji-koji. Sinyang Beach, a meadow filled with
canola flowers, peacefully grazing Jeju ponies, a rocky
sea cliff, and a towering legendary large rock (Sunbawe)
all combin e to make nature s masterpiece. Unlike the
other coastal areas of Jeju, it has red volcanic rock
(songi) and strangely-shaped rocks that at low tide
transform this area into a breath-taking stone exhibition
gallery. |
|
While the southeast and north sides are
cliffs, the northwest side is a verdant grassy hill
that is connected to the Seongsan Village. The ridge
provides an ideal spot for walks and for horse riding
as well.
The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. Also the
Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak surrounded by bright yellow
colored rapeseed flowers in the spring is truly a sight
to behold.
|
|
Located at the foot of Mt. Halla, Seongeup
Folk Village has perfectly preserved Korean tradition.
With its vast amount of cultural property, this place
is designated as a Folk Village. Wandering around this
area, you will feel as if you traveled back to the past.
It is a popular place for foreigners to experience the
unique Korean native culture. |
|
Sangumburi is a crater with a circumference
of over 2 km, and has been designated as a Natural Monument.
It is located on the southeast side of Jeju-si, and
is a flat crater, about 650 meters wide, 100 meters
deep, and 2,070 meters in circumference. If you look
at the crater from above up, it looks like a man-made
circular stadium. There is a variety of plant-life in
the crater.

Jeongbang Falls is only water
fall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. On
the wall of the water fall, there is an inscription
written “Seobulgwacha”, referring to Seobul passing
by this place. Jeongbang Waterfall is situated by a
high cliff by the sea, and an old evergreen stands there
leaning back as if it would fall into the ocean. It
is a great place to relax during the summer. There is
an observatory at the top of the cliff, from which you
can command a fine view of the sea
|
|
If you follow the farm road 600 m to
the southwest from Depo-dong, at the end of the pine
tree forest is a cliff. At the base of this cliff is
the Jisatgae Coast along with the imposing stone pillars.
The Jusangjeolli are stone pillars piled up along the
coast and is a designated cultural monument of Jejudo
Island. The Jusangjeolli was formed when the lava from
Mt. Hallasan erupted into the sea of Jungmun. |
|
Hallim Park is one of the most popular
tourist spots on Jeju Island. Hallim Park, almost 100
thousand square meters, has a variety of gardens that
can be enjoyed in any season. Visitors can enjoy checking
out Palm Tree Road, Jeju Stone and Bonsai Garden, Water
Garden, Subtropical Botanic Garden and much more. The
most famous tourist sites in Hallim Park are Hyeopjaegul
and Ssangyonggul Caves known to be the only two-dimensional
caves in the world. |
|
Hyeopjae Beach is located on the west
side of Hanrim-eup, and is part of Hanrim Park. The
beautiful white color of the sand comes from the large
amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in
with the sand. The long seashore stretches for 9 km
and has cobalt colored seawater and evergreen forests
scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very
beautiful.
|
|
On Mysterious Road (or Bugaboo Road),
a parked car on a slight hill road rolls uphill instead
of going downhill. This is a result of an optical illusion
in which the lower part looks higher because of its
surrounding environment.
